Gamereport Mannheim @ Heidelberg
On 3 Jul 2010 the Heidelberg Hedgehogs swept the Mannheim Tornados, 11-3 and 5-4. Dave Cox started on the hill for the Hedgehogs in the 1st game. He scattered 6 hits giving up 3 runs, only 2 were earned. He struck out 6 while walking only 2. The Hedgehogs took care of business in the 1st inning scoring 6 runs on only 3 hits. The big blow was a 3 run triple struck by the young catcher, Bastian von Nettlebladt. The starting pitcher for the Tornados had difficulty finding the plate giving up 2 walks and hitting 3 batters. Dom Dorer singled and Jeff Berks doubled in the inning. The Hedgehogs scored 3 more in the 4th. Patrick Schoppa knocked in a run when the Tornados shortstop could not handle his hot smash. Alex Krull doubled in a run followed by Von Nettlebladt’s double for his 4th RBI of the day. The Hedgehogs were back at it in the 5th scoring 2 runs on a double by Luis Gonzales and singles by Robert Kane and Patrick Shoppa. Dave Cox shut the Tornados down in the 6th and 7th to clinch his 4th win of the season.
The second game proved to be much harder. Simon Von Schwedler took the mound. He held the Tornados to 4 runs while scattering 10 hits, never allowing them to be strung together except for the 4th inning when he gave up 3 runs on 3 hits and 1 base on balls. Von Schwedler was the Hedgehogs’ entire offense. In the 2nd he hit one 20 feet up the trees over the right center field fence for the 1st Grand Slam Homerun of his young career. In the 4th he singled and when the right fielder misplayed the ball he came all the way around to 3rd. He scored the game winning run on Peter Schend’s sac fly. The Hedgehogs’ bats were not as loud in the 2nd game recording only 7 hits. 2 from von Schwedler, 1 from Robert Kane, 2 from Alex Krull, and 2 from Bastian Von Nettlebladt who was 5 for 6 with 4 RBI’s and double and a triple on the day. It was the 1st time in his young career that he caught both ends of a double header. He also threw out a runner trying to steal 2nd to end the 3rd inning of the 2nd game. Defensively the Hedgehog’s made only 1 error in the 2nd game. Peter Schend made his 1st start of the season at shortstop. He had 8 assists. Von Schwedler improved his record to 6-0, while completing his 6th game in 8 starts this year.
